MEALS ON WHEELS

Serving Christ by Serving Meals

Over the years our congregation has started ministries that reach beyond the bounds of our property and into the community. In 1978 the Meals-on-Wheels program came to Brandon and Westminster stepped up to prepare meals every Monday for the shut-ins in the area. For over 45 years, and continuing in the present, we have faithfully prepared and delivered meals on Monday mornings for those who might not have a meal or human contact on that day. Currently we prepare between 90-100 meals each week.

Meals-on-Wheels is a wonderful way to love and bless your neighbors in the Brandon community, plus the fellowship is awesome as everyone serves in the kitchen. The meal preparation begins at 8:00 AM on Monday mornings. While some prepare the meals, others are preparing to plate the meals in the delivery containers. After all the food preparation is completed everyone takes a short break to hear a short devotional from the Scriptures and pray together, while those who deliver the meals begin arriving to take the meals to the shut-ins. Still others in our congregation serve by baking un-iced cakes (many of the shut-ins have diabetic concerns) and drop them off on Sunday.

If you are available on Monday mornings consider joining us to prepare the or deliver the meals. Additionally, many students serve at various times to get volunteer hours for various scholarships. In our society where young people are segregated from the older generations, volunteering for Meals-on-Wheels can have many unexpected blessings.
Matthew 25:34-40: Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
